Squad Card compared with an authorized user

An authorized user borrows your card. A squad member has their own lane.

Adding a family member or partner as an authorized user is the standard shortcut to help them build credit. It works until it does not: they can spend your limit, they are not responsible for a cent, and whether it reports depends on the issuer. Squad Card is designed to give every member a lane they own and answer for.

Where authorized users fall short
The options people use now, and where each one breaks.
  • The primary card holder is liable for everything the authorized user spends.
  • Reporting to the authorized user's file is optional and inconsistent across issuers.
  • The authorized user learns nothing about managing a limit, because there is no limit that is theirs.
How Squad Card is designed to work
One shared line. A private lane per member. A reserve released by vote.

A lane is a real limitEach member's lane is sized to their file and the group's strength. Spending stops at the lane. It is theirs to use and theirs to pay.

Reporting per laneSquad Card is designed so each lane reports for the member who uses it. A good year is their good year.

Questions people ask

Can I add an authorized user to my Squad Card lane?

Program details, including authorized users on a lane, will be published with the terms at launch. The squad itself is built on members who each hold a seat.

Is a squad better than an authorized user for a young adult?

It is designed to be: a small real lane they answer for builds habits and, per the program design, a history in their name.

Do authorized user tradelines still count?

Yes, when the issuer reports them; that is unchanged. A squad lane is meant to add a history the member owns outright.

Is Squad Card available now?

Not yet. Squad Card is on a waitlist while we finish the program with our issuing bank partner. Joining the waitlist saves your seat, lets you form your squad, and gives you a free Experian score and report while you wait.

Does joining the waitlist affect my credit?

No. Joining takes a first name and an email. If you choose to check your free Experian score, that is a soft inquiry you initiate yourself; it never appears to lenders and does not change your score.

What does it cost?

The waitlist and the free Experian score cost nothing and require no card. Card pricing, credit lines and terms will be published when the program launches and depend on approval by the issuing bank.
